June 9, 2026

On April 29th, the International and Comparative Politics Department hosted its Public Lecture Series with Dr. Ruslan Rakhimov, Rector of the Diplomatic Academy of Kyrgyzstan, for a talk on training diplomats between national priorities and global demands. The event was opened by Chynarkul Ryskulova, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, who welcomed Dr. Rakhimov and introduced his background in International Relations.
Context: Central Asia sits at the crossroads of Russia, China, South Asia, and the Middle East — rich in oil, gas, uranium, and hydropower, with 80+ million people and growing economic potential. Diplomats from the region face uniquely complex challenges.
About the Academy: Founded in 1988 and elevated to academy status in 2001, the Diplomatic Academy trains specialists across International Relations, Law, Economics, and Linguistics, offering BA, MA, and retraining programs through a network of 45 partner universities.
Key training challenges identified include intercultural communication, protocol, stress resilience, critical thinking, national interests, AI & digital diplomacy, and Kyrgyz language proficiency.
Dr. Rakhimov’s recommendations: Create an international training center, develop Ambassador-level courses, integrate AI and cybersecurity, expand partnerships, and invest in leadership development.
A lively Q&A followed, reflecting the audience’s strong interest in the future of Kyrgyz diplomacy.
The ICP Public Lecture Series brings leading voices in policy and international affairs to the ż۹ʴý community.
